Church flowers workshop

Church flowers workshop

If you’re interested in working without floral foam but aren’t quite sure where to start, these workshops are for you.

Aimed at church flower arrangers across Surrey, the sessions gently guide you through practical, achievable alternatives to Oasis – showing that sustainable methods can be just as secure, often more creative, and far more in tune with the seasons.

You’ll come away with practical techniques, fresh inspiration, and a new way of seeing the flowers and foliage already growing around you.

During the workshop you’ll learn about:

  • Suitable containers, from traditional urns to everyday vessels

  • Reliable foam-free mechanics: wire, kenzan, grids and natural materials

  • Seasonal plants and foliage found on the farm, in gardens and churchyards

  • How to source flowers locally – saving money as well as reducing environmental impact

  • Seasonal design ideas through a live floral demonstration

10am–12pm | £25
Please dress for the weather with layers and hat, plus stout shoes. – this is a working farm setting.

Thank you for an inspirational morning - I have come away brimming with ideas, and sustainable ones at that. I never knew I had such a range of foliage and flower options all around me. No more trudging to the wholesaler for imported versions - a win for the environment and a win for my wallet. You managed to counter every reservation I had about giving up the dreaded floral foam. I'm a convert and think I'll be making more interesting - and seasonal - arrangements too. Am very grateful for the opportunity to ask all my questions as well. Am glad you advised us to wear warm clothes!

Thankyou for a really informative and inspirational morning. Not only did it give me new ideas about use of mechanics but the walk around the farm reminded me about seasonality and locality. I’m also inspired now to find more locally available foliage - on the way home I noticed my neighbours’ front gardens with new (foraging!) eyes and have already made use of a friend’s abundance of pittosporum for this week’s flowers :) Take a warm layer for sitting in the barn if you’re a soft Londoner like me…
